Terracotta Panels

Terracotta Panels are created within the Triplex Confinium Erasmus+ project. The idea was creating parametric molds for clay panels molding by using hot-wire robotic fabrication. Molds are fabricated with utilization of custom shaped hot wire profile which carved EPS panels and created waved cannelures. Parametric algorithm created for the purpose of fabrication is taking into consideration the differentiation of cannelure width, depth and slope along its pathway and adjusting the position and rotation of hot wire tool. The challenge was to speed up the process of CNC mold fabrication in this manner. It was created 18 molds of size 50x33cm to cover 3m² of wall. Molding and baking of clay plates was performed in the Terra studio in Kikinda.

Terracotta Panels were presented on the Think brick – Say clay exhibition held within Erasmus+ project Triplex Confinium multiplier event. The exhibition was held on April 15 2022 in Terra studio in Kikinda, Serbia.

ArtZept Art Wall Installation

The image was made to represent Zepter’ vision – a philosophy of healthy living and perfection aimed at maintaining the health of present and future generations and solving ecological problems. The main motive was to create a connection between nature and built the environment. The façade combines rectangular panels with leaf shaped perforation gathered in intriguing p3 symmetry. Organic appearance of the tree is placed on the side to gradually transform the building in the natural environment that surrounds it. In addition juxtaposition of the new technologies of parametric digital design and rustic material emphasize the dual nature of the built and natural environment.

ID pavilion

ID pavilion is a structure made at a workshop within the subject of Digital fabrication in the master program Digital technics, design and production in architecture.
The aim was to fabricate a structure that has an irregular complex construction using mixed reality tool Hololens. Elements in reality were aligning with the holographically projected model. Using this tool with the Fologram application shortened the fabrication time to the extent that there was no need to mark the elements, total time consumption took setting the elements in accordance with the holographic projection. The result of the workshop is the ID pavilion, which shows how it is possible to assemble complex structures only by using mixed reality. The material used for the primary construction was GFRP rods, and a ribbed plastic hose was used for the linear cover which reminds of a fingerprint pattern.

Zero Waste Manufactured Freeform EPS Facade

The extruded and expanded polystyrene for building’s insulation has been used mostly in form of blocks. Additionally, polystyrene has a large potential for being sculpted into curved forms at an expense of material waste. In this project, the emphasis is placed on creating no waste material out of polystyrene, while approximating doubly curved surfaces for facade application. The design process allows for quick variations by changing the parameters for insulating layers, width of the ribbons, protrusion from the facade and similar. The entire fabrication process is done by means of an industrial robot and hotwire cutting procedure. More information can be found in the article.

String Art

Stringing threads around pins and arranging them in such a manner that they form noticeable geometric patterns or shapes has been present for decades.By implementing digital tools for interpreting geometric shapes as well as grayscale images through thin threads, it became possible to fairly quickly render a final depiction of a string art piece.
Changing the parameters influences the shape of the piece (triangular, square, hexagonal), the number of threads, the number of pins and the contrast between the background and the threads while at the same time allowing for digital fabrication. In this research, the emphasis is placed on fabricating large scale string art pieces, where several smaller pieces are fabricated by using a robotic knitting tool and path and assembled into a larger end piece.

Creperie Panuša interior design

Interior design for Panuša creperie is a project produced in a collaboration between    Digital Design Center (DDC- make spin-off) and Modelart Architects studio with an aim to create unique, modern, authentic space in order to represent attractiveness, creativity and distinct culinary approach of a client and his restaurant. Also intervention on the ceiling, expressive light installation, gives a recognizable visual identity to this space. It is created utilizing combination of organic geometry and parametric design whose result remains in the visitors mental map.

Curved wall

Curved wall is a project where we tested a cost-efficient fabrication process based on kerf bending, a manufacturing strategy which bends materials using a series of cuts called ‘kerfs’, to deform planar sheet materials and as a result achieve freeform surface. To fabricate double curved surfaces there are many complex and expensive methods that can be applied, such as molding, 3D printing or CNC miling. In our approach narrow stripes of thin kerfed material, are bent over subconstruction, in this case waffle structure.

VR Tour and physical model of Novi Sad city center

Virtual reality technology, among other things, provides an innovative approach to the presentation of architectural objects to explore the environment in the third dimension. We presented an interactive tour of the part of the historic city center of Novi Sad created by students of architecture and the Digital Design Center at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, Novi Sad at the event Researchers night 2018. The presentation was shown using VR headset, which provides a realistic view and “virtual walk” through the Dunavska and Zmaj Jovina Street in Novi Sad.

We also presented physical model of the same part of the Novi Sad. This project is also produced by students of Architecture, Faculty of Technical Sciences, Novi Sad.

With these two projects, one physical and one virtually generated, we wanted to show how 3D space of an old part of the city can be represented and experienced.

Porosity

Porosity presents a research into the integrated design and fabrication approach of porous surfaces in architecture. The structure is fabricated out of foamed polystyrene by removing portions of its volume. The process considers the utilization of a hot knife tool mounted as an end effector for an industrial robot, which vaporizes the sides of the cells, thus detaching it from the initial block. Such porous surface designs can be applied in responce to building’s performances such as ventilation, insolation and air quality.

Pinoles showroom design

Pinoles Company presented their products on the Belgrade Furniture Fair 2017. In order to host visitors in comfortable and warm space, Pinoles offered plywood elements created in collaboration with Digital Design Center ( DDC- make arch-tech startup group ). Elements are both wall sculptures and benches where visitors can take the rest and get informations about Pinoles products.
